Being surrounded by the unprecedented stylistic plu- rality of modern music has no doubt influenced my in- terest in inventing styles and methods of composing. My works titled “Metacomposition” are not themselves pieces, but each is a computer program that compos- es music in its own style. A metacomposition thus de- fines an infinite sound-world to explore by composing.
In devising methods of composition, I build upon tradi- tion. My works include expressions of traditional styles. Exploring existing styles informs my original styles while affirming the inexhaustible potential of a method, whether old or new, to avail new pieces. Adding to the discoveries of other composers, I look to those of sci- entists. In pursuit of methods that reflect the human na- ture of hearing, I am an avid trespasser into fields of neuroscience and psychology.
